High Hopes continues to raise the caliber of education

High Hopes is proud to announce a new Pre-Kindergarten experience. The Pre-K 5 “Grasshopper” class, will consist of a 4-day academic learning program to prepare students for reading, writing, critical thinking, social interaction, and more, with a supplementary enrichment day to round out the school week. This elective enrichment day will be devoted to activities designed to expand young students’ world view, cultural awareness, and extracurricular abilities, including but not limited to: fitness, music, cooking, computer technology, world cultures, and art. “Because Pre-K is the last stage of preschool before entering elementary education, we believe in the importance of seamlessly transitioning a child to kindergarten by providing a stable, 5-day a week environment and incorporating skills that will benefit children in becoming academically successful and well-rounded,” said Kelly Pruitt, High Hopes’ Director of Education.

A whole new kind of “jungle gym”

For kids with disabilities and special needs, every day and every environment can present challenges. Recently at High Hopes, the generosity of a local community member and the handiwork of a national retail organization have made one environment within our facility challenging with a fun twist. High Hopes recently unveiled our new “jungle themed” Sensory Gym complete with a tree house, climbing wall, ball pit, swings, scooter ramp, rope ladder and slide.

The large tree house structure was constructed using funds granted by The Cal Turner Foundation. The creative finishing touches were provided through a grant from The Home Depot in which 20+ Home Depot employees donated their time and expertise to make the tree house come to life. Each aspect of this structure and gym was designed to help children during therapy. Whether it is strengthening muscles, encouraging balance, promoting motor planning, or stimulating sensory awareness and processing, each activity skillfully intertwines the work of therapy with the fun of play! Our High Hopes Jungle is now full of life and sounds, not of wild animals, but rather, delightful squeals and happy laughter of children as they explore, learn, and develop motor skills.
